Need a lift? At times, every community could use a little lift.
Rawlins County Economic Development and Rawlins County HomeTown Competitiveness are sponsoring L.I.F.T., a Leaders Involved in Formation and Training program during the school year. The classes will be held from 7 to 9 p.m., nine different times from September through May.
Faculty include Kurt Dillon, Rawlins County High School principal; Matt Wolters of J.D. Skiles, Co.; Chris Sramek, director of RCED; and Barry Kaaz, Colby Community College.
According to Sramek, leadership used to just be inherited. Now, community leaders need to be recruited from all walks of life. They |
need to be visionary thinkers and strategists, and have the ability to be flexible enough to compromise and change.
The L.I.F.T. training can increase job skills and help those in the training accomplish positive things for their community schools and churches.
The cost of the class is $30.
But we have scholarships available for those who can't afford the fee," Sramek said.
The locations of the sessions depends on the number of people attending the program, he said.
"So, if they can let me know as soon as possible that they want to attend, I'll be able to set up the location," Sramek said.
Sept. 5 is the first class and will be the orientation and getting acquainted session. |
Sramek said registration for the class will be taken up to and including that class time. To pre-register or for additional information, call him at 785-626-3640.
Class dates have been set for Tuesday evenings, Sept. 5, Oct. 17, Nov. 14, Nov. 28, Dec. 12, Feb. 13, March 6, March 27, April 17 and graduation May 15.
Classes include: homework after each session that supports learning and practice; assessment visits to businesses and resource providers that allow each participant to learn more about the area; and networking with leaders in nearby communities.
Additional sponsors of the program include Colby Community College, Ogallala Commons and USD #105.
